This a very famous and popular European dessert that can be served with pretty much anything, for example, ice cream, pudding, fresh berries, whipped cream or just plain. This is just the base recipe for the simple vanilla meringue so get creative. I will be creating variations of this recipe so stay tuned.

Step preview

  1. Pre-heat - 150°C
  2. Prepare 2 clean baking sheets with parchment paper
  3. Get a clean large mixing bowl
  4. Add egg white
  5. Add salt
  6. Mix thoroughly until stiff and glossy and continue mixing
  7. Add granulated sugar gradually and continue mixing
  8. Mix thoroughly until stiff then set aside
  9. Get a clean small bowl
  10. Add cornstarch
  11. Add water
  12. Add white vinegar
  13. Add vanilla extract
  14. Mix thoroughly with teaspoon until completely mixed and continue
  15. Transfer mixture to batter
  16. Fold gently until mixture comes together and continue
  17. Transfer batter to 2 baking sheets
  18. Bake until light golden - 40 min, 150°C
  19. Let cool completely - approx 30 min
  20. Transfer meringue to plastic container carefully
