Welsh cakes (Welsh: picau ar y maen, pice bach, cacen gri or teisen radell), also Welshcakes or pics, are traditional in Wales.They have been popular since the late 19th Century, they are a traditional tea-time treat that are really easy to make. Eat them warm from the stove, or store in an airtight container for up to a week.

Step preview

  1. Get a clean medium bowl
  2. Add sifted self raising flour
  3. Add diced salted butter
  4. Rub in until coarse crumbs form
  5. Add caster sugar
  6. Add sultanas
  7. Add beaten egg
  8. Mix in well until just combined
  9. Roll out on lightly-floured surface until 1/4" thick
  10. Cut into rounds
  11. Grease
  12. Cook until golden brown - 2 min
  13. Flip until golden brown then set aside - 2 min
  14. Repeat
  15. Get a clean small bowl
  16. Sprinkle with caster sugar
