The best sausage for this sort of easy pasta casserole are the fat links that come five or six to a package. (Or, of course, honest-to-God Italian sausages from an Italian butcher. But who would freeze those instead of grilling them right up and snarfing them down?) If you haven’t thought in advance to slice the sausages into 1-inch bits before freezing them, don’t worry. Sausages are so full of fat that they slice easily, even when frozen.

Step preview

  1. Pre-heat until hot - Sauté, More
  2. Mix italian sausage, chicken broth, marinara sauce and italian herbs into the inner pot
  3. Cook until simmering while stirring occasionally
  4. Cancel - Sauté
  5. Then stir frozen bell pepper strips and ziti noodles into the inner pot
  6. Close and lock the lid and turn the steam release handle to Sealing
  7. Pressure cook - Manual, High, 6 min
  8. Cancel - Keep warm
  9. Quick release
  10. Stir mozzarella cheese into the inner pot
  11. Set lid askew over inner pot
  12. Let rest - approx 5 min
  13. Serve
