Protein rich lentil soup flavored with lots of cilantro and lemon. If the soup becomes too sour add sugar to cut down the sourness. Lemon juice can be replaced with lime juice. Yellow lentils can be replaced with red lentils or even cooked chickpeas. Lentils can be skipped to make thin broth like soup (cut down the cooking time to 3 mins).

Step preview

  1. Add cumin seeds, black pepper, green chili, ginger, ginger-garlic paste and cilantro to a clean mortar
  2. Grind with mortar and pestle until thickened then set aside
  3. Add oil to the inner pot
  4. Pre-heat until hot - Sauté, More
  5. Then add curry leaves, mustard seeds, red chili, asafoetida and ground turmeric to the inner pot
  6. Cook while stirring occasionally - approx 1 min
  7. Transfer content of mortar to inner pot
  8. Cook while stirring occasionally - approx 2 min
  9. Add toor dal, salt and water to the inner pot
  10. Mix until well combined
  11. Close and lock the lid and turn the steam release handle to Sealing
  12. Pressure cook - Manual, High, 8 min
  13. Release pressure -
  14. Check for consistency
  15. Stir lemon into the inner pot
  16. Garnish with cilantro
  17. Serve
