  1. Get a clean small bowl
  2. Add black peppercorns
  3. Add cloves
  4. Add star anise pod
  5. Add crumbled cinnamon stick
  6. Add fennel seeds
  7. Place a clean frying pan - medium heat
  8. Transfer spices to frying pan while stirring occasionally
  9. Roast in frying pan until browned at edges and let cool - medium heat
  10. Crush with mortar and pestle until well blended
