These are very easy to make and comforting to eat! Add extra cayenne pepper and mature cheddar for extra flavour. Adapted from a BBC food recipe.

Step preview

  1. Pre-heat - 200°C
  2. Get a clean large mixing bowl
  3. Add all purpose flour
  4. Add salt
  5. Add cayenne pepper
  6. Add baking powder
  7. Mix briefly until blended
  8. Add cubed unsalted butter
  9. Rub in until coarse crumbs form
  10. Add grated cheddar cheese
  11. Mix briefly until just combined
  12. Add milk gradually while mixing
  13. Mix until dough forms
  14. Transfer dough to lightly floured surface
  15. Roll out
  16. Cut out
  17. Transfer scones to baking sheet
  18. Glaze milk
  19. Sprinkle with grated cheddar cheese
  20. Bake - 10 min, 200°C
