My great-great grandmother would make this using leftover pie dough as a treat for her kids who helped in making the "regular" pies. It's come down through the generations as a treat on its own. Definitely eat it fresh (same day), or the filling will get quite hard.

Step preview

  1. Pre-heat oven - 190°C
  2. Add basic pie crust to a clean lightly floured surface
  3. Roll out
  4. Add all purpose flour, sugar and ground cinnamon to a clean medium bowl
  5. Mix thoroughly
  6. Transfer dough to pie dish
  7. Transfer filling to pie dish
  8. Dot with unsalted butter generously
  9. Fold
  10. Bake - approx 30 min, 190°C
  11. Serve
