The self-rising flour means no baking powder is needed. These are super fluffy.

    170 g (about 1 ¼ cups)

  • Granulated sugar icon

    14 g (about 1 ⅛ tablespoons)

  • Baking soda icon

    ¼ teaspoon (about 1 g)

  • Butter icon

    2 tablespoons (about 29 g)

  • Buttermilk icon

    1 cup (about 240 ml)

  • Egg icon

    1 (about 50 g)

    METHOD


  • 1. Add self raising flour, granulated sugar and baking soda to a clean large mixing bowl
  • 2. Mix well until completely mixed then set aside
  • 3. Add butter to a clean medium bowl
  • 4. Melt in microwave
  • 5. Add buttermilk to the medium bowl
  • 6. Warm in microwave
  • 7. Whisk together
  • 8. Add egg to the wet ingredients
  • 9. Whisk together
  • 10. Transfer wet ingredients to batter
  • 11. Mix gently until mixture comes together
  • 12. Cook in frying pan until golden brown - 199°C
