My grandma made these cookies when I was a kid. The recipe is from her grandma. The original recipe called for 1.5 cups of 'shortening' (which would've been grease saved from cooking). I remember my grandmother used half butter & half Crisco (vegetable shortening), which is what I have here. You can use all butter as well.

  1. Prep and set aside walnuts: chopped
  2. Get a clean large mixing bowl
  3. Add shortening
  4. Add butter
  5. Add white sugar
  6. Add brown sugar
  7. Cream
  8. Add egg
  9. Add vanilla extract
  10. Mix
  11. Add all purpose flour
  12. Add salt
  13. Add baking soda
  14. Add ground cinnamon
  15. Add ground cloves
  16. Add nutmeg
  17. Mix until blended
  18. Add chocolate chips
  19. Add prepared walnuts
  20. Fold
  21. Refrigerate - approx 1 hr
  22. Pre-heat - 205°C
  23. Scoop
  24. Transfer dough balls to baking sheet
  25. Bake - 6 min, 205°C
  26. Serve
