Sourdough donuts to celebrate sourdough September. The combination of sourdough and baking soda gives these donuts a great texture and flavor. They're yummy on their own, sprinkled with cinnamon sugar, or dipped in chocolate glaze (separate recipe).

Step preview

  1. Get a clean frying pan
  2. Add grapeseed oil
  3. Heat - 180°C, medium-high heat
  4. Get a clean medium bowl
  5. Add all purpose flour
  6. Add baking powder
  7. Add baking soda
  8. Add granulated sugar
  9. Add ground cinnamon
  10. Add salt
  11. Mix briefly then set aside
  12. Get a clean large mixing bowl
  13. Add rye sourdough starter
  14. Add grapeseed oil
  15. Add egg
  16. Add buttermilk
  17. Whisk until combined
  18. Transfer dry ingredients to mixture
  19. Mix gently until dough forms
  20. Transfer mixture to lightly floured surface
  21. Knead
  22. Roll out
  23. Cut out
  24. Fry
  25. Drain with paper towels
  26. Let cool on round wire rack
