Coconut sambal is eaten with nearly every meal in Sri Lanka, you can make it as spicy as you wish but making it with a fresh coconut is best.

  • Tomato icon

    Method

  • 1. Add tomato, shallot, garlic clove, chili powder, black pepper, salt and chili flakes to the mortar
  • 2. Crush with mortar and pestle until combined
  • 3. Add coconut and crush again until mixture comes together
  • 4. Transfer to the small bowl, squeeze lime into and mix
  • 5. Serve
