These delicious crispy, crunchy and spicy roasted chickpeas are a great way to use up those cans of chickpeas that have been lurking in the back of your cupboard. They're also a great alternative to crisps and popcorn when you're craving a savoury snack. These can be made with any mix of herbs and spices, play around with your favourite flavours. These are spicy, reduce the amount of pepper and cayenne if you’re not a spice fan.

  • Canned chickpeas icon

    x 1 (about 400g)
  • Olive oil icon
    Olive oil
    2 tbsp (about 30ml)
  • Black pepper icon
    Black pepper
    ½ tsp (about 1g)
  • Salt icon
    ½ tsp (about 3g)
  • Cayenne pepper icon
    Cayenne pepper
    ½ tsp (about 1g)

Step preview

  1. Pre-heat oven - 200°C
  2. Prepare a clean work surface with paper towels
  3. Add canned chickpeas to the work surface
  4. Pat dry completely with paper towels
  5. Transfer beans to large mixing bowl
  6. Add olive oil to the beans
  7. Toss until coated
  8. Transfer beans to baking sheet
  9. Spread evenly
  10. Roast - 25 min
  11. Transfer content of baking sheet to large serving bowl
  12. Add olive oil, black pepper, salt and cayenne pepper to the large serving bowl
  13. Mix until coated
  14. Serve immediately
