This recipe is so easy to throw together, and doesn’t require you always have a box of mac n’ cheese in the pantry. It’s also really easily tweaked — throw whatever cheese you have/want into the sauce and you’re good to go! You can easily make the sauce in the time it takes to boil water and cook pasta, and throw in veggies if wanted, top with hot sauce, pepper, etc. The sky is the limit with this one!

Step preview

  1. Fill a clean large saucepan with water
  2. Boil - high heat
  3. Add pasta to the large saucepan
  4. Cook and continue - 8 min
  5. Add butter to a clean saucepan
  6. Melt - medium heat
  7. Whisk in all purpose flour the saucepan
  8. Cook while whisking - 6 min
  9. Add milk to the sauce
  10. Whisk vigorously until smooth
  11. Add milk to the sauce gradually
  12. Whisk until thickened and turn off heat
  13. Add cheddar cheese to the sauce
  14. Mix until completely melted
  15. Drain pasta
  16. Transfer sauce to pasta
  17. Stir until combined
  18. Season with salt & pepper
