Traditional old fashioned oat flapjacks. These must be made with real butter. A nice treat for a wintry walk. If you materialize these chewy sweet delights from your bag with a hot flask of tea everyone will be very happy campers. This one is also very easy to adapt. I particularly like these flapjacks with a little unsweetened desiccated coconut mixed through. Either mix your favourite nuts or seeds into the batter or sprinkle on top. Just remember to cut these flapjacks while still warm in the tray.

Ingredients

    1 tbsp (21g)
  • Caster sugar icon

    225g (about 1⅛ cups)
  • Vanilla extract icon

    1 tsp (5ml)
  • Rolled oats icon

    450g (about 2¾ cups)

Step preview

  1. Pre-heat oven - 180°C
  2. Add butter, golden syrup, caster sugar and vanilla extract to a clean large saucepan
  3. Melt slowly - low heat
  4. Add rolled oats to the mixture
  5. Mix well until coated
  6. Line a clean baking dish with parchment paper
  7. Transfer mixture to baking dish
  8. Press firmly
  9. Bake until golden brown - approx 25 min
  10. Cut into squares
  11. Let cool
  12. Serve
