Traditionally served on Halloween in Ireland, this loaf cake is full of dried figs and hazelnuts. It's perfect as a quick tea cake to make year-round. Spread with butter and eat while still warm!

Step preview

  1. Get a clean large mixing bowl
  2. Add raisins
  3. Add chopped dried figs
  4. Add hot earl grey tea
  5. Soak until soft - approx 8 hr
  6. Pre-heat - 170°C
  7. Grease a clean loaf pan
  8. Add zest of orange to a batter
  9. Get large mixing bowl
  10. Add light brown sugar
  11. Add ground cinnamon
  12. Add apple pie spice mix
  13. Add egg
  14. Mix briefly until combined
  15. Add all purpose flour
  16. Add baking powder
  17. Add toasted hazelnuts
  18. Mix until combined
  19. Transfer batter to loaf pan
  20. Bake until skewer tests clean - 50 min, 170°C
  21. Let cool - approx 5 min
  22. Turn out onto cooling rack
