A quick and basic Australian bread, traditionally baked on damped down campfire embers (hence the name!).

  • Plain flour icon

    250 g (about 2 cups)

    6 g (about 1 ¼ teaspoons)

    25 g (about 1 ¾ tablespoons)

    170 g (about ¾ cup)

    METHOD


  • 1. Pre-heat oven - 190°C
  • 2. Add plain flour, baking powder and salt to a clean large mixing bowl
  • 3. Whisk together until combined
  • 4. Rub in salted butter the dough
  • 5. Add milk to the dough
  • 6. Mix until dough forms
  • 7. Shape into a ball
  • 8. Transfer dough to large cast iron skillet
  • 9. Flatten gently
  • 10. Slice large mixing bowl
  • 11. Brush with milk
  • 12. Bake - 30 min, 190°C
  • 13. Serve
