    METHOD


  • 1. Add dried navy beans and water to a clean large mixing bowl
  • 2. Soak overnight with water
  • 3. Drain with sieve
  • 4. Get a clean Dutch oven
  • 5. Add content of large mixing bowl to Dutch oven
  • 6. Add water to the beans
  • 7. Add baking soda and onion to the beans
  • 8. Heat until boiling
  • 9. Simmer - 15 min
  • 10. Pre-heat oven - 120°C
  • 11. Add bacon, ground cloves, cayenne pepper, molasses, brown sugar, salt and dijon mustard to a clean small bowl
  • 12. Transfer wet ingredients to beans
  • 13. Stir well until combined
  • 14. Cover with foil
  • 15. Bake - approx 5 hr, 120°C
  • 16. Serve
