This cranberry and orange version really packs in the flavour. Don’t skimp on those cranberries – they work so well with this recipe (and there’s nothing more disappointing than cutting open a scone to find one or two lonely cranberries in there). Eat them warm with a little salted butter, or go all-out with the clotted cream and jam. I find that cherry jam works really well, but I bet orange curd would be lovely too.

  1. Pre-heat
  2. Prepare a baking sheet with parchment paper
  3. Get a clean large mixing bowl
  4. Add all purpose flour
  5. Add baking powder
  6. Add salt
  7. Add cold, diced butter
  8. Rub together until crumbs form
  9. Add golden caster sugar
  10. Add dried cranberries
  11. Add zest of orange
  12. Mix in
  13. Add beaten egg
  14. Add vanilla extract
  15. Add buttermilk gradually
  16. Transfer content of large mixing bowl to lightly floured surface
  17. Flatten into a circle
  18. Cut
  19. Transfer scones to baking sheet
  20. Brush with milk
  21. Bake for 15min until golden brown
  22. Let cool on round wire rack
  23. Serve
