I love this French toast on rainy fall days. Caramel is great in place of maple syrup, and you can substitute the apples for any fruit. I really enjoy it with pears, quince or bananas as well.

    Method

  • 1. Slice challah bread into a clean cutting board then set aside
  • 2. In a small bowl mix in ground cardamom, ground cinnamon and sugar
  • 3. Add egg, vanilla extract and heavy cream
  • 4. Whisk until combined
  • 5. Add sugar, lemon juice and water to a clean saucepan
  • 6. Cook until golden brown and turn off heat - medium heat
  • 7. Add apple to the syrup
  • 8. Mix in heavy cream to the syrup then set aside
  • 9. Add butter to a clean frying pan
  • 10. Melt - medium heat
  • 11. Dip bread into batter
  • 12. Transfer each slice to the pan and cook each side until golden brown - medium heat
  • 13. Drizzle syrup
  • 14. Serve
