Teriyaki sauce is fantastic. It is sweet, tangy and full of flavour.

But, buying it ready-made can be very expensive and full of unwanted extra sugar and additives.

  • Water icon
    Water240 ml
  • Brown sugar icon
    Brown sugar50 g
  • Ginger icon
    Ginger½ teaspoonminced
  • Garlic clove icon
    Garlic clove2minced
  • Soy sauce icon
    Soy sauce60 ml
  • Red wine vinegar icon
    Red wine vinegar½ teaspoon
  • Honey icon
    Honey1 tablespoon
  • Cornstarch icon
    Cornstarch1 tablespoon

    Method

  • 1. Add water, brown sugar, ginger, garlic clove, soy sauce, red wine vinegar and honey to a clean saucepan
  • 2. Stir well
  • 3. Bring to a boil
  • 4. Add cornstarch and water to a clean small bowl and stir well until smooth
  • 5. Whisk in the cornstarch mixture to the boiling sauce. Whisk constantly.
  • 6. Whisk sauce vigorously until thickened then set aside
  • 7. Let cool
  • 8. Transfer sauce to jar
