Eating well doesn't need to be time and labor intensive or even be expensive. Steamed mussels are delicious and take very little time to make. They are my favorite seafood, as I don't feel guilty indulging in them because they are sustainable. This meal can be made start to finish in 30 minutes and makes a lovely lunch or a simple dinner served with crusty bread and a salad. I also like to enjoy mine with a nice glass of rose or bubbles.

Step preview

  1. Get a clean large mixing bowl
  2. Add debearded mussels
  3. Get a clean large saucepan
  4. Add salted butter
  5. Melt on medium heat
  6. Get a clean small bowl
  7. Add minced shallot
  8. Add minced garlic
  9. Transfer vegetables to large saucepan
  10. Sauté for approx 1min on medium heat until fragrant
  11. Add fresh thyme
  12. Get a clean glass measuring cup
  13. Add white wine
  14. Add heavy cream
  15. Transfer liquid to large saucepan
  16. Cook until simmering
  17. Add ground black pepper
  18. Add kosher salt
  19. Transfer fish to large saucepan and cover
  20. Steam for 5min
  21. Serve immediately
